Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers regarding RSA registration, PFA transfers, and retirement payouts.

You can register an RSA account online by filling our Registration Form in the Contact Us page, or by visiting any PenAm branch. You will need to provide an official means of identification, passport photographs, and your employer details. PenAm will register you on the PenCom central database, and generate your unique RSA PIN.
Yes. Under PenCom regulations, contributors are allowed to change their PFA once a year during the Transfer Window. You can initiate a transfer request directly through our Contact/Join page or email us. We will assist you with database synchronization to ensure all your accumulated balances are securely transferred to PenAm.
Under Section 4(1) of the Pension Reform Act 2014, the mandatory minimum contribution is 18% of the employee’s monthly basic salary, housing, and transport allowances. This is split as 10% contributed by the Employer and 8% contributed by the Employee. An employer can also decide to pay the entire 18% on behalf of the employee.
Upon retiring (attaining 50 years or on medical grounds), processing takes approximately 5 to 10 working days. Following PenCom's landmark 2025 benefit approval decentralization, PFAs now have direct authority to independently approve and disburse pension payments without prior Commission approval. Payouts are made directly to your registered bank account via programmed withdrawals or life annuity structures.
The Data Recapture Exercise (DRE) is a mandatory PenCom directive requiring all PFA contributors registered before July 1, 2019, to update their biometric profiles and national identity numbers (NIN). This exercise ensures database security and prevents duplicate account registrations.
Under the September 2025 PenCom guidelines, the Micro Pension Plan (MPP) was formally rebranded as the Personal Pension Plan (PPP). This plan provides self-employed persons and small enterprise owners in the informal sector with highly flexible savings rules, allowing contributions to be split into 40% contingency (withdrawable for emergencies after 3 months) and 60% locked retirement savings.
In compliance with PenCom's 2026 digitization directives, retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme can verify themselves remotely using our portal's digital "I am Alive" facial recognition system. This eliminates the need to physically visit a branch and ensures uninterrupted monthly pension disbursements.
